About the Apprenticeship
McKenzie’s Adventures, in partnership with Hacienda La Puente Unified School District (HLPUSD), offers a district‑wide EdTech Apprenticeship Pathway designed to prepare high school students for future‑ready careers in technology, education, and digital innovation.
The STEM for Change™ EdTech Apprenticeship Pathway equips students with foundational skills in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity awareness, digital learning systems, IT support, and professional communication, while bridging classroom learning with paid, real‑world work‑based learning experiences.

Eligibility Requirements
Current HLPUSD high school juniors
Interest in technology, IT support, or digital learning
Willingness to commit to a 2 year program
Ability to participate in in‑school and work‑based learning activities
Note: This opportunity is not open to the general public or students outside of Hacienda La Puente USD.

Students selected for the apprenticeship will participate in a 2-year STEM for Change™ experience that blends technical learning, professional skill development, and community impact.
Throughout the program, apprentices will:
Build AI foundations and understand responsible technology use
Learn prompt engineering and how AI supports decision‑making and automation
Develop skills aligned to IT Support Specialist roles
Apply design thinking and human‑centered problem solving
Use Microsoft Power Apps to design and build apps that address real community challenges
Create digital artifacts and reflections using Adobe Express for Education and Book Creator
Document learning and access coursework through McKenzie’s Adventures’ LMS
Conduct EdTech workshops in collaboration with the district.

Students in this pathway are prepared for an IT Support Specialist role with McKenzie’s Adventure LLC.
Skills Apprentices Will Learn
IT support fundamentals and troubleshooting workflows
Digital device and platform support in learning environments
AI‑assisted problem solving and automation
Ethical technology, privacy, and responsible AI practices
Research, documentation, and data literacy using Microsoft tools
Professional communication and customer‑facing support skills
Collaboration, teamwork, and technical presentations
These skills align directly with entry‑level IT, EdTech, and digital learning support roles, while building a strong foundation for future pathways in AI, cybersecurity, and technology careers.

As part of the STEM for Change™ Apprenticeship Pathway, students will prepare for and take two industry‑recognized certification exams that strengthen both professional and technical skills.
Certiport Professional Communication Certification (Required for all students)
Learn how to communicate professionally in the workplace; this includes presenting ideas clearly, working effectively on teams, writing professionally, and interacting with clients and colleagues. These skills are essential for success in any IT or EdTech role.AI Foundations Certification (Taken later in the program)
Build an understanding of artificial intelligence, responsible AI use, and how AI is applied in real‑world IT and digital learning environments.
